The Earth’s Tounge

Ghalia and The Very Faraway Dream

(1)

“Ough I really hate this life,” she said with a great exhaustion.

Ghalia was laying on her pinkish bed, like a lonely sneak in a spacious desert, a sneak which is so peaceful that does not have an intention to bite anything. A sneak that is wearily goes in circles trying to fulfill its natural obsession. Ghalia, as any “single” girl in her age of twenty-seven, was craving for the simplest right that she deserves, the right to love, to be loved, and to make love…

She never can stop blaming herself about being born in such a society, the society of the two extremes: Traditions and modernization. Since an old time, Arabs societies were almost stable when it comes to the way of living. “Live to marry” and “marry to love” were the two correlated rules of living that can bring happiness to the world. The religion, in turn, came to confirm these two rules. The critical change had existed just before the generation Ghalia was born, about the late 70’s. Now, it becomes hard to get married at an early age because of being among a global village that virtually altered the rules of marriage. Most of the people on this planet come to agree that the late twenties is the ideal period of marriage; However, they can make love as much as they want as soon as they are sexually active, treating it as a biological human need. Differently, Ghalia’s society sees having sex before marriage as a taboo that would overspread the society with an ugly obscenity. The religion established that rule of prohibition and provided a very fair solution for that, as of the saying of the prophet Muhammad ” O you young people: Whoever is able to get married is urged to do so”. Actually, this advice carries over the fact that once a person is sexually active, he or she is urged to get married. And knowing that young people usually cannot get married easily, marriage should be very eased and simplified at the same time in order to meet their needs. Therefore, it was not of surprise if a couple of teenagers get married at the times of the 20thcentury and before. By living on that manner, people seemed to be comfortable with it as long as it does not hurt their reputation among other tribes, and does not violate the honoured traditions their ancestors had “planted” in the ground of heritage, beside the tents and the trees of palm..

“Marriage,” Ghalia said once to her close friend Sara, “is a mysterious miracle”. We just keep dreaming of it men and women, children and adults, singles and even marrieds!” Sara put a little smirk on her face. She knows exactly what made Ghalia saying that. She also remembers that day when both girls went on a head-to-head conversation at the college cafeteria, which, for no surprise, ended with a fight that split them for a while because of the same dilemma: Marriage. Indeed, Sara was trying to warn Ghalia from the likely disaster that she thought confronting Ghalia’s personal life. Sara didn’t like Ghalia’s new fiancé for reasons that Ghalia thought they are flimsily unreasonable. Ghalia thought Ali was a fairly good guy, who is definitely able to put her on the horse of love and go along with her to the land of milk and honey, just like the fairy tales. He was kind of an interesting person, and that what Ghalia admires because she thinks his uniqueness definitely leads to the ultimate happiness.

Sara sighed, looked at the other side of the cafe. “You really want to marry this guy, don’t you?” She asked while she was looking away. “Well, personally, I don’t see anything preventing me from doing that, plus I am in the need of someone to look after me” Ghalia replied, guiltlessly . “But what about me? “, Sara mumbled like she was talking to herself. Ghalia went crazy as she heard that. “Don’t tell me that you are making this whole fuss because that damn thing between you and me? Wake up girl you .. are not a teenager anymore, you are already 23! What happened between us must be forgotten, period. Hey, are you listening? “. Sara was anxiously holding her tissue, hiding her little face from other people, looking down almost all the time. “But,” Sara said, “We seemed so happy in the past. You Ghalia were enjoying it. I always notice you smile when we get together. Why now everything changed? ”. Ghalia barely understood what Sara was saying to her, as Sara’s voice was gone because of her tears. “Sara, what happened before was a horrible mistake, and now it’s time to solve that mistake really”. “A mistake!?” Sara moaned, “You should have said that way before, not this time, not after I fell in love with you!!”. Sara gathered her stuff quickly, took her scarf, and ran away.

This day is exceptional, literally. Every single detail in it must be considered as unique. It seemed that God hands were there preserving the great day. Finally Ali kept his word and came to Ghalia’s house to ask her father for her hands. Ghalia was acting rediculously as she couldn’t believe that was really happening to her. Happiness causes people to be crazy sometimes. Love is crazy anyway. Ali, on the other side, was acting like crazy too. No doubt he was so nervous. Lots of things were roaming in his head about how Ghalia’s father would react, but as soon as he remembers Ghalia’s beautiful eyes when he saw her befhind the window one night, all the fear fades away completely..

His fears actually were coming from many streams; the fear from the public reaction was the most. People used to get married at an older age than Ali’s and Ghalia’s and they would see their marriage as a childish mistake, eventhough they both are 23 years old. Also, his father disagreed at the first with the idea of getting married with Ghalia’s family because he thinks that Ali should marry a girl of their people and their tribe; However, he seemed very unable to stop that marriage because that young love was way defeatable !

“If you are not in love, then why you make love” Mike O’Donnell in “17 Again” the movie.

Personally, I’d label this intensively inspiring sentence as my own “principle” for this year and after as my days pass on. Indisputably, it carries a bit of a solution for the most terrifying issue in young people lives, like me of course. I always remember my times in bed alone, wishing for my top-list wish to come true. In fact, I can’t stop imagining how wonderful to wake up in the morning and open my eyes to see beautiful eyes in front of me sleeping peacefully after having a great thrilling night. It just looks so glorious. And that great morning is not a one-of-a-kind morning, hopefully all the mornings beyond that point are of the same details and greatness. On the other hand, I always remember when I give that pathetically romantic look to a woman whom I like when passes by me, which never made me better off anyway because I look so poor every time it happens. Actually, I always had troubles trying to put a distinctive line between what sex and what love mean mostly because I am still young, or that what I’m pretending to be. And sex drives never been easy to control at all. They come in shapes of love when I’m pissed of, joy when I’m bored, or even aggressiveness when I’m acting like a wild man. So, sex is always misleading when it comes to love and only it can be “leading” when comes after love happens.

Now, I’m rolling to my bed, carrying over that silly, useful conclusion of “Making love cannot be made without love itself”. Good night!

To My Most Beloved Woman

I grow up, but with my mother I still small ..

I become old, but with her I still a child ..

She is the only one who sacrificed her tears, her milk, and her blood for me ..

people have forgotten me, except my mother ..

All of them have been ungrateful, except her ..

The whole world has changed, but her ..

God bless you Mom !

how many times you cried when I am away ..

and how many times you refused to sleep because of me ..

and how many times you still up late when I am sick ..

God bless you Mom !

You carried me in the days of pain and misery ..

and put me with your moans and groans ..

and hugged me with your smiles and kisses ..

Oh God bless you Mom !

You don’t sleep until I sleep ..

and you don’t relax, until I am happy ..

when I smile, you just laugh, even without knowing why I smile ..

and when I am disappointed, you cry even you don’t know what bothered me ..

You excuse me, before I sin ..

and you forgive me, even before I apologize ..

Oh Mom,

Because you always make me your great issue..

your beautiful story ..

and also your lovely hope ..

I wish I can rinse your feet with my tears of gratitude ..

and raise your body to the ninth cloud ..

May the death misses you and comes to me ..

and may the troubles find their way to me, before they reach you ..

I’ve granted my soul for you, forever and for always ..

“My Lord! Bestow on them Your Mercy as they did bring me up when I was small.” Al-Isra; Verse: 24

The Distinguishing Line Between Love and Life

Love and life are two concepts that people always define one of them by the other. However, the act of “mixing” causes inevitable problems in people’s lives. What does really come first in order of importance: Life or love? In many cultures, countless numbers of “lovers” has given up their lives in the name of love. Those people definitely made their lives meaningless when it comes to love. The question is what made love so powerful that it can outweight the life itself. Life is seen as the main reinforcing factor that encourges lovers to be in the state of “ablaze” love. Has the magic really turned back against the magician?

Love Is A Killing

As love does beautiful wonders, it can turn one’s life into a real disaster…

How many people die every day because of a person whom they once dreamed of being beside him or her?..

They dreamed of a heaven-like life and they was given death topped with very ominous roses..

They were craving for the sweet honey from the lips their beloved, yet they were given baneful bitter drink that of rotten rats…

Love promises them life, and gives them the same life, but with no life in it ..!

The Philosophy of Love

A very long time ago..

there were not humans on Earth, yet.

Virtues and vices were roaming the Earth together, exhausted from boringness.

One day, as a solution for the intractable problem of boredom, “Creativity” suggested a game named “Hide-And-Seek”.

Everyone was so excited for the new game. They just seem to be loving it.

“I want to begin. I will be the first,” “Insanity” yelled. “I am the one who closes his eyes and counts, and you should hide right away”.

Then he leaned on a tree and started counting.

“One”

“Two”

“Three”

All Virtues and vices were trying to find a place to hide in.

“Tenderness” found a place for itself on the Moon.

“Treason” concealed under a pile of trash.

“Passion” went to hide among the clouds, and “longing” elapsed under the ground.

“I will cover behind the mountains,” ”Deception” shouted loudly, and immersed at the bottom of the lake.

“Insanity” kept counting.

“Seventy-nine”

“Eighty”

“Eighty-one”

By that time, all virtues and vices found a place to hide, except “Love”.

As usual, “Love” has no determination or decision, hence it has not decided where to hide. In fact, that was not surprising for anyone, since it is so difficult to hide “Love”.

“Ninety-five”

“Ninety-seven”

And when “Insanity” counted “Hundred”, “Love” jumped into a clump of flowers, and hid inside it.

Then “Insanity” opened his eyes and yelled enthusiastically “I am coming. I am coming!”.

The first one to be found was “Laziness”, since it had not made any effort to hide itself. “Tenderness” appeared behind the Moon, and from the bottom of the lake “Deception” came choked.

“Insanity” called up “Longing” to come over from the ground. It found them all, one after the other, except “Love”. “Insanity”  was frustrating and disappointed as it was trying to find “Love”.

Until “Envy” came close by “Insanity” and whispered “Love is hiding in that flowers’ bush”. “Insanity” rashly picked up a thorn-like wooden spear and thurst it into the bush, and did not stop until it heard a heart-rending cry.

“Love” appeared and was closing its eyes by its hands, as blood dripping among its fingers.

“Oh my God, what on Earth have I done?,” Insanity regretfully screamed. “What should I do for you after I impaired your sight?

“Actually, it is clear that you cannot bring my vision back, but there is something you still can do” Love answered.

“Be my guide”.

.. And that is what happened on that day. Ever after, the blind “Love” goes guided by “Insanity” ..!

When Emotionally Starving

Me

‘”She is dead. Isn’t she?” The niece cried on her aunt’s face.

Kate, the obsessed chef who can never think of anything else besides cooking, had faced the fact that her sister was dead in a traffic accident. She was back to her kitchen where she works as a “main chief” the next day. However, she couldn’t stop thinking about her sister and kept remember her first words when she just had the baby, Zoe.  “Dear Kate, I want you to know if anything should ever happen to me, you are the only person I would want to have her,” the sister had written.

The movie ”No Reservation” is a great  choice for those who are physically and emotionally starving. In fact, it is about the uniqueness of one talented chef trying to balance her career with her private life, and dealing with a sad child who misses her mother all the time. Soon after, a new trouble seem to appear, when the exuberant Italian chef-assistant was hired to work at the same kitchen, breaking both her career and private life.

-”I wish there is a life book exactly like recipes books tell us what exactly should do”. The chef Kate.

-”The recipes you create for self are the best”. The Therapist.

“For every beautiful, there is a lover,” Mansour AlHumaid-2008

“To the beautiful soul
I scatter the dews of my roses
in your way, with all faith that you will come back.

Things are going against my desires
Firing back all the way around
Toward me, the same person..
who once held “hope” between his arms
who once held “You”

“Life” is so hard to live in ..
Without You ..
Because You Are ..

Saudi Arabia: Between a Rock of Traditions and a Hard Global Place

The picture is from Wikipedia.org

Saudi Arabia, the peninsula where the world sees it as the most strangest place ever, has been increasingly in news focus lately. It is definitely strange because it remained unchanged despite all the “erosion factors” that it is experiencing. Many people around the planet ridiculously label it as “backward” and “rigid”. However, that view lacks the logic of understanding cultures. In fact, it is very important to account for all the factors that contribute to the rich peninsula, where the word “rich” describes the cultures, the traditions, and the faiths).

Pre-Islam History

In order to understand Saudi Arabia as a culture, it is very important to examine its history from the revolutionary point that contributes to most of the changes that we are seeing today-Islam.  Islam came to the world rising from the Arab most important political city Mecca by Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). In fact, that new faith was not accepted by most Arabs at that time, since it conflicted with most of their believes and faiths.

The world of Arabs was controlled, like other civilizations at that time, by tribes and their leaders. A tribe is been considered as the the house that governs everything from what to believe in to what type of clothes should be worn. In the same vein, a leader of a tribe is seen as the “king” who must be obeyed, otherwise the disobedient person would end up to be “punished” or “out of the tribe”.
